E-invoicing, or electronic invoicing, is the process of sending and receiving invoices electronically, instead of using traditional paper-based methods. E-invoices offer numerous benefits, including increased efficiency, reduced costs, and improved accuracy in the invoicing process.

The Macedonian Tax Authority has recently announced the planned implementation of B2G and B2B e-invoicing for 2024. The affected taxable persons must adjust their invoicing processes to align with the impending regulations.

Implementation timeline

  • 1 November 2020: An electronic invoice has equal standing to a paper invoice

  • 2024: Proposed B2G and B2B e-invoicing implementation

VAT Invoices

Taxpayers in North Macedonia must issue invoices in compliance with the Macedonian VAT Act within 5 working days of the supply.

If a supply is made to an end consumer, the supply must be recorded through a cash register and a receipt must be issued to them.

Electronic Invoicing

Currently, electronic invoicing is not mandated in North Macedonia, but companies may voluntarily issue it with the written consent of the buyer.

If the agreement is made, the issuer must sign the e-invoice with an electronic signature to ensure its validity.
